Graphic Design Specialist

This position is responsible for designing a wide variety of promotional materials chiefly for print, but possibly for the Web. Requires outstanding design skills, solid understanding of direct marketing principles, flexibility, accuracy, attention to detail, timeliness, strong communication and decision-making skills. Must be able to evaluate comments and suggestions and determine how to solve an array of design problems. Must be skillful at "selling" design concepts to others and explaining the thought that goes into design decisions. The candidate should also be skilled at giving direction to outside design sources and demonstrate strong potential for growth. At times this position is subject to heavy workloads. Assignments are subject to strict deadlines.

Responsibilities:

Design Work

  • Design and update brochures, letters, cards, order forms, envelopes, ads, signage, premiums, product packaging
  • Organize and prioritize multiple projects for a variety of internal clients
  • Suggest multiple design and format alternatives (rough layouts, alternate treatment examples) as needed
  • Understand and apply brand standards
  • Deliver final files that are complete and comply with Production standards

Creative Support

  • Create mock-ups, display boards and samples as needed.
  • Research and procure stock photos, sample product pages, editorial assets, etc.
  • Assist in developing premium concepts
  • Proofread work at all stages as needed

Industry-Related Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of the business and of marketing and corporate goals
  • Develop a strong understanding of direct marketing principles and techniques
  • Contribute innovative thinking, new techniques and improved procedures to the team

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Fine Arts, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years experience in Graphic Arts
  • Knowledge of direct marketing and publishing is preferred
  • Proficiency with Macintosh CS3 programs; QuarkExpress a plus
  • Design skill and creativity
  • Well organized and able to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and strong team player with a problem-solving approach

Zaner-Bloser Educational Publishers

Marketing Assistant

This position is responsible for the daily administrative support of the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Correspondence Course. Includes data entry and tracking of completed lessons; working with course evaluators, students, and professors to ensure the successful and timely completion of the course. Provides clerical and administrative support to the Director of Integrated and Product.

Responsibilities:

Handwriting Correspondence Course

  • Serve as primary point of contact for professors with students enrolled in the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Correspondence Course.
  • Create and distribute class lists to professors and course evaluators as needed.
  • Maintain accurate address information for all students and universities.
  • Process completed lessons received and update associated records each day.
  • Generate mid-term and final reports for professors.
  • Ensure that all supporting materials and documents are distributed per established guidelines.
  • Coordinate and support the activities of course evaluator activities to ensure timely and accurate processing of all lessons.
  • Prepare requests for office supplies/postage and mileage.
  • Reconcile and process contract labor invoices on behalf of course evaluators.
  • Answer questions from students by phone or email.
  • Notify professors about students not meeting course expectations. With the support of the National Handwriting Product Manager, work to resolve issues with students, professors and/or evaluators.
  • Generate other written communications needed to ensure the successful operation of the course.
  • Maintain archive of lessons and files

Clerical and Administrative Support

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to Director of Integrated Marketing.
  • Perform duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Coordinator of Traffic and Production.
  • Distribute promotional materials and daily mail within the department.
  • Provide lunch hour switchboard relief once a week.
  • Provide data entry and distribution support for yearly Handwriting Contest.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma, some college; Associates degree desired

Highlights for Children

Manager, Warehouse

This position oversees daily operations of a 103,000 square foot warehouse for books and related educational material produced by four subsidiaries (three out-of-state) of Highlights for Children, Inc. Maintaining the warehouse's high level of quality control and customer service is of primary importance. Requires in-depth, hands-on knowledge of distribution center operations flow and excellent problem solving and communications skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, supervise, assign, and coordinate workflow among a work group of approximately 10 – 15 people (including temps as needed).
  • Process daily downloads of order activity from businesses served.
  • Oversee daily returns processing.
  • Prepare and conduct performance review(s).
  • Train new staff (including temps as needed). Arrange for staff development.
  • Maintain procedures manual as needed.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of cartons and other operating supplies used in the shipping department.
  • Develop, implement and oversee the cycle count inventory process.
  • Assume responsibility for research resulting from cycle counts, and any other inventory discrepancies that are discovered in the distribution center.
  • Ensure that receiving is accurate to standards.
  • Ensure that the distribution center operates safely.
  • Review processes regularly to ensure efficient operations.
  • Personnel administration, including adherence to company policies, practices and work rules.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance and repair maintenance to ensure the continued operation of warehouse equipment.
  • Ensure quality control of product received from outside vendors.
  • Work with external logistics company to coordinate inbound and outbound freight shipments and deliveries.
  • Ensure that orders needing special handling are taken care of correctly and shipped at the appropriate time. Assist with developing contingency plans for both large volumes of work and system issues.
  • Clearly communicate management goals to staff.
  • Effectively communicate technical issues to the appropriate person.
  • Responsible for all safety training in the distribution center.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelors Degree is desired
  • 3-5 years previous distribution operations experience
  • 1-3 years previous management experience, preferably in a distribution enterprise that services multiple business units
  • Demonstrated knowledge of warehouse management systems
  • Confidence and comfort with computers and computer programs
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

Online Marketing Manager

The Online Marketing Manager is responsible for the development and execution of online marketing optimization. Strategizes, develops and executes online marketing programs including affiliate marketing, web analytics, email, customer retention programs, viral marketing, and online advocacy. Increases qualified traffic, conversions and ROI. Also accountable for financial performance and legal compliance in assigned areas.

Responsibilities:

Customer Acquisition

  • Develop and execute an online customer acquisition plan to maximize site traffic with a focus on quality of traffic to maintain or increase conversion rates.
  • Execute successful and profitable affiliate programs to increase subscriber growth and enable existing customers to be rewarded for transfers, upsells and referrals.
  • Track, measure and analyze performance of online advertising and marketing programs; design test strategies and refine creative to optimize results.
  • Develop and execute an online optimization plan including A/B testing and heuristic testing to improve overall site conversion rates.

Customer Retention

  • Develop, drive and execute effective club and ancillary cross selling programs including email cross-promotes.
  • Define, create and execute targeted email marketing campaigns to improve customer retention through increased awareness of all Highlights products.
  • Manage the execution of all email communications including newsletters and marketing promotions.
  • Study impact of customer segmentation of online and offline buyers (with email) to gain insights on retention and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with marketing and customer service to establish a process of communication that will increase customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Web Analytics

  • Collaborate closely with market managers and e-commerce analyst to create regular and ad-hoc reporting and analysis based on business needs. Drive product level forecasting efforts.
  • Conduct regular reporting reviews with e-commerce team, and quarterly reviews with traditional marketing team.
  • Work closely with internal departments to discover new reporting needs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing or Finance, with an MBA preferred
  • 5+ years online marketing
  • In-depth marketing knowledge and success, specifically in affiliate marketing, online optimization, search, email and viral marketing

Sr. Marketing Database Analyst

This position provides information and recommendations to lead the company towards future growth opportunities by gaining a better understanding of who our customers are and how they purchase. The incumbent provides business intelligence for tactical and strategic level decision makers in the marketing departments through analysis of customer transactions and characteristics, using both quantitative and qualitative techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Create reports and analyses to provide important information for marketing decision making.
  • Look for future opportunities to help determine strategic and tactical direction for our consumer businesses.
  • Use data mining techniques to better understand our customers and their buying behavior.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to marketing and corporate management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably with quantitative emphasis, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's Degree desired
  • 5+ years database experience in a direct marketing environment
  • 5+ years analysis experience
  • 5+ years statistical analysis experience (modeling, data mining, customer segmentation)
  • Experience working with large complicated databases
